The Marrakech Médina Project | A Heritage in Danger | The Médina of Marrakech | Living in the Heart of the Medina

The Marrakech-Medina project

Quentin Wilbaux, a belgian architect, came to Marrakech for holiday in the 80?s. He fell under the charm of its special atmosphere and decided to establish there in order to dedicate to the architectural rehabilitation of the medina. Amazed by the state of ruins of its buildings, he spent a large time visiting several hundreds of traditional houses, some of them historic dating of 17th and 18th century, in order to itemize them for a classification.
He decided to carry on with his work of research by a Ph.Doctorate thesis in urbanism on the medina of Marrakech and wrote several books, one of which title is ?Marrakech, the secret of garden-houses? ACR edition).
In 1994, he founded the Company Marrakech-Medina, the first Company in Marrakech to contribute by means of private funds to the rehabilitation of these magnificent houses and to their touristic promotion.
Marrakech-Medina can be considered nowadays as the precursor of the riad phenomenom with almost 80 restored riads, most of them dedicated to touristic dwellings. Foreigners and more recently Moroccans enjoy rediscovering the uncomparable serenity and luxury of living in a riad.

Marrakech-Medina currently focuses its activities on :
- Finding for clients, properties of architectural interest to sell and restore
- Assisting clients in their acquisition, formalities and all along the restoration of their property
- Riads renting in exclusivity or in guest-rooms, according to a grading classification in ?palms? and a chart of quality for comfort and services in each type of house traditionally found in the Moroccan hospitality. Today, Marrakech-Medina can offer combined stays in Marrakech and all over Morocco : in the countryside, on the seaside, in the mountain or the desert.
